Let’s Talk CBD

CBD

What is CBD and How Does It Work?

First of all, CBD does not get you high.
Here’s why – CBD, short for cannabidiol, is derived from hemp and marijuana plants. But it contains less than 0.3% THC – the chemical component that has psychoactive effects which gets you high.
Rather, CBD contains cannabinoids which acts on our body’s endocannabinoid system; responsible for maintaining homeostasis (ie balance) and helps our body adapt to outside stressors. The receptors for cannabinoids are found throughout the body including the immune, nervous, digestive and reproductive systems. Meaning that it can help regulate inflammation, mood and pain for instance.

What Are The Health Benefits of CBD?

CBD was originally used for pain management and to help reduce the number of seizures and the twitching in Parkinson’s disease.
But now one of the most common reasons people turn to CBD is for its anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory effects. In addition to this, CBD has also been used to help regulate mood, manage stress, help you fall asleep and improve sleep quality.

How Can I Start Incorporating CBD Into My Routine?

One of the easiest and most effective ways to start using CBD is with a CBD oil. Drip the CBD oil sublingually (under the tongue) to allow it to effectively enter your bloodstream and start interacting with your endocannabinoid system.
If you’re using it for anxiety and stress management, I suggest using it in the morning. Whereas, if you’re using it to help you fall asleep and improve sleep quality, take it before bed. You can also take both morning and night, but it’s best to slowly work your way up to taking it twice a day.
The amount of CBD you take depends on a range of factors, including your body weight, the condition you’re targeting, metabolism and concentration of CBD. I suggest starting off at a low dose (around 20 milligrams) and slowly increasing it over a few works or months to see what works for you.
CBD is generally safe for everyone, however, if you are on medication, pregnant or breastfeeding, please check with your health professional first.
